Museum Tour Dresden: Discover the Porcelain Collection in the Zwinger

Immerse yourself in the captivating world of porcelain art with a museum tour through the renowned Porcelain Collection in Dresden's Zwinger. Explore the delicate language of porcelain and experience one of the most significant collections worldwide.

The Collector’s Passion: Augustus the Strong and His "Porcelain Disease"

Augustus the Strong was so enamored with porcelain that he referred to his obsession as a "maladie de porcelaine." Diplomats and agents scoured Europe for the finest pieces from China and Japan. Simultaneously, the Meissen Porcelain Manufactory set new standards, skillfully imitating and refining Asian designs.

Baroque Meets Modern: The Presentation of the Collection

In a setting designed by architect Peter Marino, baroque splendor merges seamlessly with modern elegance. Silk and leather wallpapers, gilded pavilions, and crystal chandeliers create the perfect backdrop for monumental Imari vases, delicate figurines, and opulent tableware. Particularly noteworthy is the Böttger Room, where the origins of Meissen porcelain and red Böttger stoneware come to life.
