DRESDEN – ONE CITY, MANY STORIES

Since its destruction in 1945, the city has reinvented itself in an impressive symbiosis of tradition and modernity – evident in its restored old town, the striking GDR-era architecture, and the visionary projects of the post-reunification period.

Dresden also presents itself as a city at the crossroads of East and West, as well as North and South. Its 800-year-old German history is preceded by a centuries-long Slavic settlement, still apparent today in the Old Sorbian origin of its name and the soft Dresden dialect. A southern flair emerges in the rather northerly city when one considers the magnificent Italian art on display. Above all, the outstanding culinary scene and the city's role as an opera metropolis evoke the feeling of “La Dolce Vita.”

The trendy Neustadt exudes sensuality and vibrancy, while the Altstadt impresses with its monumental residential buildings and a one-of-a-kind museum landscape. Altmarkt and Prager Straße beckon for shopping, and the sprawling villa quarters and gardens invite you to dream.
